~Its Time For An Update!~



Hello and greetings to my cyber friends and family!  My apologies that our blog has laid dormant for may months at times.  I became frustrated from the unmanageable slow internet that we previously used. It took so much time to download simple pictures and/or images...precious time that I just didn't have.

But now, after two years of being on a waitlist...we finally have been hooked up with StarLink! It has opened up so much more internet ability for sharing our Homesteading and farming journey!
It also makes a huge difference in our day to day activities with on-line schooling for our 8th grader this year, and using the internet for our 3 Corners Farm business to film and keep track of business. I highly recommend StarLink to anyone who needs good quality internet for their home or business.

Our kids are joyous about no longer living in the stone ages, according to them. Hee.

So, with this move forward into the future of internet, I can now share more of what we have been accomplishing on the farm! 

Farm Growth

In case you need a little re-cap of our small farm business, my husband Travis grows produce on a separate leased acre of land that has irrigation in the nearby rural town of Odell, which is in the outskirts of Hood River Oregon.


In the past few years he has been slowly and magically growing longer (100 foot) rows of greens such as Arugula, baby kale, spinach, spring mixed greens, and some various other vegetables to sell to local people and businesses. 

Customers

We now have three main groups that we serve:
 
1. Local restaurants and stores.  I believe this is Travis's ultimate goal, to get to the point of selling the majority of his greens to local food businesses because this cuts out much of the middle work for us.  We can harvest, clean and bag in bulk, then deliver in one stop, a large quantity all at once.
. 
2. The Gorge Farmers Collective.  This is also another great service not only for Travis to sell his Certified Naturally Grown produce, but also for local families who can go on-line and choose from various farmers and products at the click of their fingertips, and pick it up in one location every Wednesday. This does require hauling produce and keeping it cold, as well as bagging in smaller quantities, so requires a bit more work on our end.


3. Farmer's Markets. We take our produce to the The Dalles Farmer's Market on Saturday's from 9:00 to 1:00.  This is a great way to get out into the community and meet the people and answer their questions.  We have been considering joining the Hood River Market as well, but have not yet found the time to do so.  The bonus about the markets is that I can contribute with Homemade breads and hopefully coming soon, some more beeswax candles and other goodies such as jams and soaps.

Through much hard work we have multiplied our blessings since we started at the very beginning when the pandemic hit in 2020, and we had to rely on making deliveries to get us going.

Future Details

In upcoming blogs I will sit down and share more of the numbers involved such as how much of each crop we are growing currently, how much of it we lose to weather and pests, as well as how many pounds we sell per week, money generated and money spent, etc. 

I will be sure to share more updates regarding our animals, but for now I am happy to share that currently our small herd (of old rescue horse, mini horse, and two goats) is doing well. We just purchased one ton of alfalfa, to add to the grass grass hay for Willow, to help get her through the upcoming winter. The prices for everything have gone up, and in some cases nearly doubled, but God is faithful and we have managed! For those of you who love the animals tales, I will bring you along with the adventures of our stories and care for them as the seasons change.

Also, our son Trevor has been living in his tiny house since April of this year and he is loving it!  We still hope to get more finished on it this fall, which is sneaking up fast. We will finish putting in the wood ceiling, add a bathroom door, and custom build the kitchen cupboards and cabinets. At least for now it is fully functional and livable, plus we all needed the break from building projects to rest our backs and re-build some savings, but we will share the costs and further completions as we get back to work on it!
